Janine Heikoop is a registered member of the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario (Qualifying) and an associate member of the Canadian Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT). She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (Honours) from the University of Guelph, and a Masters of Divinity (Counselling Track) from Tyndale University.
Janine is trained in Family Systems Theory. She takes a systematic approach to counselling, which explores all areas in an individual’s life that may be affecting their current situation. Furthermore, she examines the current context you are living in, and helps you explore areas in which positive change can be made.
Janine works with couples, families, and individuals of all ages. Her areas of focus are working with Christian clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Furthermore, she works with individuals who struggle with self-esteem, relationship challenges, self-harming behaviours, family challenges and conflict, marriage challenges and conflicts, stress, life transitions, school issues, workplace difficulties, and many other areas of mental health.
Janine focuses on building a positive therapeutic relationship with her clients based in empathy, compassion, trust, and support. She is a kind and calming presence and is able to listen without judgement. Janine’s empathetic approach helps you to build self-confidence and practice the necessary coping skills you need to engage in safe and healthy relationships with others.
